On 2 April 1851, Xu Yabao, who had been sentenced to life exile, hanged himself in prison.

1851年4月15日，必列者士獲高等法院委任為大律師；同年，他創辦了香港首家以代理客戶訴訟為專業的律師行，此律師行即的近律師行的前身。
On 15 April 1851, Bridges was appointed a barrister by the Supreme Court; in the same year he founded Hong Kong's first law firm specialising in representing clients in litigation, which was the predecessor of Deacons.
