The Tung Wah Hospital Infectious Diseases Hospital was sited at Kennedy Town; the outbreak of smallpox in 1897 prompted the construction plan, the foundation stone ceremony was held on 18 November 1901, and it officially opened on 6 June 1903 with 68 beds.
