1912年7月4日，候任港督梅含理由卜公碼頭動身，前往大會堂準備出席就職典禮，途中在必打街遭華人李漢雄槍擊。梅含理安然無恙，李漢雄被警方拘捕，最終判處終身監禁；香港史上刺殺港督的事件，就只發生過這麼一次。
On 4 July 1912, the Governor-designate Sir Francis Henry May set off from Blake Pier to attend his inauguration at the City Hall, and was shot at by a Chinese man, Li Hon-hung, on Pedder Street; May was unharmed, Li was arrested by police and ultimately sentenced to life imprisonment, and this was the only assassination attempt on a Governor in Hong Kong's history.
