On 18 May 1928, a stone-throwing incident targeting Japanese shops occurred in Wan Chai; the court imposed a fine the next day, aiming to curb the further spread of anti-Japanese sentiment among Hong Kong Chinese after the 'Jinan Incident' of 3 May.
