On 1 January 1949, the Church Social Service Centre completed its reorganisation to become a self-financing family service organisation not subordinate to the government, and was renamed the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, providing support to families in financial difficulty.

On 20 January 1949, the Hong Kong Soda Water Factory completed its registration formalities and was designated by Coca-Cola as the franchised bottler for Hong Kong; it was later acquired by the Swire Group in 1965 and renamed Swire Coca-Cola Limited in 1974.
