1953年3月6日，赤柱感化院經香港政府改建，定名赤柱教導所，收容14至18歲青少年，施以感化、教育及技術訓練，屬香港首間教導所。
On 6 March 1953, the Stanley Reformatory was converted by the Hong Kong Government and renamed Stanley Training Centre, taking in youths aged 14 to 18 for reform, education and technical training, and was the first training centre in Hong Kong.

1950年起，趙聿修與呂重德著手規劃建造圓玄學院，選址荃灣，並於1953年3月15日正式開幕。此修道場所奉核心信仰為道教，同時兼容儒家及佛教思想。
