1954年7月14日，新界大埔墟火車站一帶的禁山木瓜園失火，五間木屋遭焚毀，十四人喪生、八人受傷。
On 14 July 1954, a fire broke out at the forbidden hill papaya orchard near the Tai Po Market railway station in the New Territories, destroying five wooden huts and killing 14 people and injuring eight.

1954年7月22日，深水埗大坑東九龍仔一帶的木屋區發生火災，焚毀木屋約3800間，造成九人死亡，並有14,000人登記成為災民。
On 22 July 1954, a fire broke out in the squatter area of Tai Hang Tung and Kowloon Tsai in Sham Shui Po, destroying about 3,800 squatter huts, causing nine deaths, and resulting in 14,000 people registering as fire victims.

1954年7月23日，國泰航空一架「空中霸王」客機在由曼谷前往香港的航程中，飛越海南島上空時遭兩架解放軍軍機開火擊落；肇因是該客機被錯誤識別為台灣當局之軍用飛機，最終造成十人喪生。
On 23 July 1954, a Cathay Pacific "Air Master" passenger aircraft on a flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong was shot down by two PLA military aircraft while flying over Hainan Island; the cause was that the aircraft was mistakenly identified as a military aircraft of the Taiwan authorities, resulting in ten deaths.

On 27 July 1954, Henry Fok founded Lok Shun Investment Company Limited; after completing registration, the company was the first to sell residential units by instalment, pioneering the practice in the property sector.
