1977年8月1日，緝私隊脫離工商署架構，並依據一條修訂條例獲正名為香港海關。

On 1 August 1977, the Preventive Service was separated from the Commerce and Industry Department and renamed the Customs and Excise Department under an amending ordinance.

警方毒品調查科在1977年8月25日展開拘捕，共有九人被拘捕；當局指他們涉嫌與馬惜如及馬惜珍合謀販毒，涉案時間為1967年至1973年。
