建築師做啲乜
建築師負責設計樓宇同空間，統籌則師圖，處理入則同審批程序，協調結構、機電同承建商，並喺施工期間監督設計落實。工作唔止畫圖，仲包括研究法規同規劃要求、平衡可持續設計、成本同工期，同向客戶解釋方案。建築師亦要同測量師、工程師同其他專業協調，確保設計符合法例同安全要求。同遵守專業操守。
註冊同法定名銜
喺香港，「建築師」係受法定規管嘅名銜。根據《建築師註冊條例》（第408章）第13(1)條，註冊管理局唔會把某人註冊為註冊建築師，除非佢係香港建築師學會會員（或管理局接納、水準不低於學會會員嘅其他建築團體會員）、喺申請前已喺香港取得一年有關專業經驗、通常居於香港、唔受第IV部研訊或紀律制裁命令限制、以書面聲明有能力執業，同屬適當人選。註冊後先可以用「建築師」或「註冊建築師」名銜，名字亦會載入公開名冊。
專業評審同實務經驗
要成為學會會員，主流路徑係完成獲認可嘅建築專業課程，再通過香港建築師學會／建築師註冊管理局嘅專業評審。評審設有多份試卷，考生必須累積認可實務經驗先可以報考：Papers 3、4、5須至少12個月，Papers 1、2、6、7、8則須至少24個月，當中包括最少12個月喺香港嘅A類實務經驗。實務經驗一般要喺註冊建築師直接監督下嘅建築師事務所累積。

What architects do
An architect designs buildings and spaces, coordinates the drawing set, handles submissions and approvals, works with structural, building-services and construction teams, and supervises design during construction. The job goes beyond drawing: it involves studying statutory and planning requirements, balancing sustainability with cost and programme, and explaining options to clients. Architects also coordinate with surveyors, engineers and other professionals to ensure the design complies with the law and meets safety requirements. Registered architects must also observe professional conduct requirements set by the Board.
Registration and the statutory title
In Hong Kong, 'architect' is a statutorily regulated title. Under section 13(1) of the Architects Registration Ordinance (Cap. 408), the Board shall not register a person as a registered architect unless the person is a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (or another architectural body accepted by the Board as being of not less than that standard); has had one year's relevant professional experience in Hong Kong before applying; is ordinarily resident in Hong Kong; is not precluded by an inquiry committee or disciplinary order under Part IV; has declared in writing that the person is competent to practise; and is a fit and proper person. Only after registration may the title 'architect' or 'registered architect' be used, and the name is entered in the public register.
Professional Assessment and practical experience
To become a member of the Institute, the mainstream route is to complete an accredited professional architectural programme and then pass the HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment. The assessment comprises several papers, and candidates must accumulate recognised practical experience before sitting them: at least 12 months for Papers 3, 4 and 5, and at least 24 months for Papers 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8, including at least 12 months of mandatory 'Category A' local practical experience. Practical experience is normally gained in an architectural practice under the direct supervision of a registered architect.
