從事固定電力裝置相關電力工程的人，須向機電工程署註冊。證明書分 A、B、C、R、H 級，各級可用學徒、證書、文憑或學位等多條資歷路徑。

Electro-mechanical, telecoms, window and aircraft maintenance trades often require statutory registration or a licence: electrical workers register with the EMSD at grades A, B, C, R or H, aircraft maintenance follows HKAR-66 licensing, and drone operators register with the CAD. EMSD divides registered electrical workers into five grades, each with different qualification requirements: Grade A covers low-voltage installations up to 400A, typically requiring an apprenticeship plus electrical craft certificate and one year of experience. Grade B covers up to 2500A, requiring a higher certificate plus two years of experience or progression from Grade A. Grade C covers any low-voltage capacity, requiring an electrical engineering degree plus relevant experience. Grade R covers specified categories (neon signs, AC systems), needing special training and four years of experience. Grade H covers high-voltage installations, requiring Grade B/C eligibility plus high-voltage training.
Electrical workers have no statutory pay scale: pay is set by the employer and depends mainly on registration grade (A, B, C or H), the type of work (domestic, commercial, high-voltage installations) and whether the post is direct or subcontracted. Freelance technicians usually charge per job or per day, so income fluctuates with the number of working days. Because pay for the same grade can differ greatly between companies, this site prints no monthly estimate; when negotiating, ask about day or monthly rates, overtime and night-shift pay, transport and tool allowances, MPF and employees' compensation cover. Career direction: technician → foreman or supervisor, then project-level responsibility, and with enough experience and clients, setting up your own engineering company.
