土木工程師設計同監造道路、橋樑、隧道、渠務同斜坡工程，做結構計算同地質評估、協調承建商同監督施工質素。要簽署法定文件，就要取得香港工程師學會會員資格，再註冊為註冊專業工程師。

Civil engineers handle the planning, design, construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, tunnels, drainage, slopes and related facilities. The work includes structural and load calculations, ground and foundation assessment, design drawings and construction methods, contractor coordination, supervision of quality and safety, and later maintenance. Project scale varies widely, but all are tied closely to public safety and the working of the city. The work must also follow the relevant legislation and engineering standards, and inspections and records must be properly kept.
The first gate is HKIE membership: an accredited honours degree, adequate training (such as Scheme A), sufficient responsible experience and the Professional Assessment. The second is registration with the ERB as an RPE: an acceptable qualification, one year of relevant post-qualification professional experience before applying, and ordinary residence in Hong Kong. Civil engineering is one of the Institution's disciplines, and regulated works must be signed by a qualified RPE, which makes this registration especially important for government and major projects.
Civil engineers are mostly employed by government departments, engineering consultancies and contractors, and some specialise in structural, geotechnical, transport or water engineering. Demand tracks infrastructure investment, rail and road development and slope-safety policy, and the workplace may be an office, a site or a site laboratory. On pay, the private sector is set by the employer with no uniform official scale, while government civil engineer posts follow the civil-service Master Pay Scale. Because the discipline bears on public safety, continuing professional development and current standards matter throughout a career.

從事固定電力裝置相關電力工程的人，須向機電工程署註冊。證明書分 A、B、C、R、H 級，各級可用學徒、證書、文憑或學位等多條資歷路徑。
電工學徒跟註冊電業工程人員做電力裝置安裝同維修，一邊讀職專課程，逐步考取機電工程署嘅註冊電業工程人員資格。
電訊技術員負責固網、寬頻、流動網絡同機樓設備嘅安裝、測試同維修；行業受通訊事務管理局規管，工作常涉及客戶處所同戶外設施。
設計樓宇同空間，統籌則師圖、處理入則同審批，協調結構、機電同承建商，並喺施工期間監督設計落實。喺香港用「建築師」名銜，須向建築師註冊管理局註冊。
