Its advantage is disclosure: ranks, pay scales, academic, fitness and language requirements are all published, and posts advertised on or after 1 July 2022 also require the Basic Law and National Security Law Test.

政府化驗所科技員工分兩個職系：專業職系以化驗師為入職級別，技術員職系以二級技術員為入職級別，後者要求化學科技文憑同中英文第二級。招聘透過政府職位空缺查詢系統或報章廣告進行，屬公務員職位；政府化驗所由政府化驗師領導，歷史超過一百四十年。部門亦會通過在職培訓同輪調，讓化驗師接觸唔同範疇。

Government Chemists analyse samples for law enforcement and regulatory departments, covering food, drug, environmental, toxicology and forensic work, write reports and give expert evidence in court when needed. Because results can directly shape enforcement or regulatory decisions, laboratory work demands accuracy, traceability and rigorous quality management, and both sample handling and records must follow procedure. The laboratory also takes part in proficiency testing and quality accreditation to keep its results credible and defensible in court. Samples often arrive under chain-of-custody rules, so every step is documented.
Entry requires a relevant first or second class honours bachelor's degree plus a relevant master's degree, or a relevant bachelor's degree plus two years of relevant post-graduate experience, with the bachelor's degree taken in chemistry, biochemistry/biotechnology or forensic science as the major. Applicants must also pass the Aptitude Test of the Common Recruitment Examination, reach Level 1 in the two language papers, and pass the Basic Law and National Security Law Test. Chemists are expected to keep learning as instruments and methods advance.
The laboratory's scientific staff fall into two grades: the professional grade, entering as Chemist, and the technical grade, entering as Science Laboratory Technician II, the latter requiring a diploma in chemical technology and Level 2 in Chinese and English. Recruitment is through the Government Vacancies Enquiry System or newspaper advertisements on civil service terms, and the laboratory, dating back more than 140 years, is headed by the Government Chemist. In-service training and rotation let chemists gain experience across different areas of analysis over a career.

政務主任是政府的政策與公共管理工作。2025/26 年度招聘以一級或二級榮譽學士學位為學歷門檻，並要通過綜合招聘考試、聯合招聘考試及《基本法及香港國安法》測試。
行政主任專長資源與系統管理，調派到各政策局及部門。學士學位即可投考，不一定要榮譽等級——與政務主任不是同一條路。
投考警員須為香港特別行政區永久性居民，並符合學歷、語文、《基本法及香港國安法》測試及體能等要求；錄取後會在警察學院接受住宿訓練。
消防員（行動／海務）屬消防處紀律部隊職位，主要執行滅火、救援及防火職務。入職以文憑試／會考學歷為主，並須通過視力、體能、模擬實際工作及能力傾向筆試。
