工作實況：分組教學同安全照顧
游泳教練嘅課堂，由安全評估開始。教練要了解學員嘅水性同健康狀況，安排適合嘅分組同進度。教學上，佢哋由熟習水性做起，逐步教閉氣、漂浮、踢水同划手，再組合為完整泳式，並不斷示範同糾正呼吸同姿勢。對於怕水嘅學員，教練要用遊戲、鼓勵同循序漸進嘅方法幫佢哋建立信心。課堂期間，教練要全程留意學員位置同體能，安排休息，並隨時準備處理抽筋、嗆水等情況。除技術外，水上安全同自救知識亦係教學重點。
關卡：游泳教師同拯溺資格
香港冇游泳教練嘅單一法定牌照，入行主要靠培訓機構同體育總會嘅資格。業界普遍要求教練持有游泳教師或教練證書，並具備拯溺資格。中國香港拯溺總會嘅泳池救生章考試分為甲部筆試、乙部水上急救實習試同丙部水上實習試，考生須三部分全部合格先獲發證書。康樂及文化事務署嘅綜合拯溺證書課程，由具中國香港拯溺總會認可資格嘅教練任教，學員通過課程同評估後可取得拯溺銅章、急救證書、水上急救證書同泳池救生章等。
出路：學校、會所同私人班
游泳教練嘅出路相當靈活。佢哋可以受僱於學校泳隊、私人會所、泳會、康文署轄下泳池，或者以自僱形式開設私人班同小組班。隨住家長重視子女學泳同水上安全，幼兒及兒童泳班需求殷切；亦有教練專攻競賽訓練、成人習泳、長者或特殊需要人士游泳。想長遠發展，教練除咗考取游泳教師同拯溺資格，亦可進修運動科學同教練法，甚至考取更高級別嘅教練認證，逐步帶隊比賽或轉做教練主管。

The job: group teaching and safety care
A swimming instructor's lesson begins with a safety assessment. The instructor checks learners' water confidence and health and arranges suitable grouping and pace. In teaching, they start with water familiarisation and progressively teach breath-holding, floating, kicking and stroking, then combine these into complete strokes, demonstrating and correcting breathing and posture throughout. For learners who fear water, the instructor uses games, encouragement and gradual steps to build confidence. During the lesson the instructor keeps track of everyone's position and fitness, arranges rest, and stays ready to deal with cramp or swallowing water. Beyond technique, water safety and self-rescue knowledge are central to the teaching.
The gate: swimming-teaching and lifesaving qualifications
Hong Kong has no single statutory licence for swimming instructors; entry rests mainly on qualifications from training bodies and national sports associations. The sector generally expects a swimming-teaching or coaching certificate plus a lifesaving award. The Hong Kong China Life Saving Society's Pool Lifeguard Award examination has three parts, a written paper, a practical aquatic first aid test and a practical water test, and candidates must pass all three before a certificate is issued. The LCSD's integrated lifesaving certificate course is taught by coaches with qualifications accredited by the Society, and after the course and assessments participants gain the Bronze Medallion, Certificate in First Aid, Certificate in Aquatic First Aid and Pool Lifeguard Award.
Pathways: schools, clubs and private classes
Swimming instructors have flexible pathways. They may be employed by school teams, private clubs, swimming clubs or LCSD pools, or work freelance running private and small-group classes. As parents value children's swimming and water safety, demand for infant and child classes is strong, and some instructors specialise in competitive training, adult swimming, or swimming for older people or those with special needs. To develop long term, an instructor pursues swimming-teaching and lifesaving qualifications, studies sports science and coaching methods, and may take higher coach accreditation, gradually leading teams or moving into coaching management.
