1948年7月16日，國泰航空一架往來港澳的定期班機「澳門小姐號」遭人劫持，隨後墜海，導致乘客、機師與劫匪共26人死亡，只有一名劫匪生還，成為香港航空史上第一宗劫機事件。
On 16 July 1948, a Cathay Pacific scheduled flight between Hong Kong and Macau, the Miss Macao, was hijacked and subsequently crashed into the sea, killing 26 people including passengers, the pilot and the hijackers, with only one hijacker surviving, becoming the first hijacking incident in Hong Kong aviation history.

1948年7月19日，香港基督教女青年會轄下、設於九龍元州街的葛慕蓮託兒所正式啟用，是香港首間幼兒園。

1948年7月27日與28日兩天，連場暴雨令堤壩受損，繼而觸發山泥傾瀉，九廣鐵路路軌被堵塞，列車運作停頓四天。
On 27 and 28 July 1948, heavy rainstorms damaged the dam and triggered landslides, blocking the Kowloon-Canton Railway tracks and halting train services for four days.

On 30 July 1948, the Hong Kong Government promulgated an anti-corruption ordinance providing that, under the special written authorisation of the Attorney General, police officers of the rank of Assistant Superintendent or above could investigate corruption cases.
