1972年4月1日，一條1949年起實施、管制入境者的條例終止實施，同日另一條新入境條例開始生效。
On 1 April 1972, an ordinance in force since 1949 controlling persons entering Hong Kong ceased to have effect, and a new immigration ordinance came into operation on the same day.

1972年4月23日，董浩雲（董氏集團創辦人）所創辦的全球首間海上大學「宇宙學府」輪，首次抵達香港，船上載有57位教授及420名學生；該船替代同年1月被焚毀的「伊利莎伯皇后號」，藉此達成董浩雲推動海上教育的願望。
On 23 April 1972, the SS Universe Campus, the world's first floating university founded by C. Y. Tung, founder of the Tung Group, arrived in Hong Kong for the first time, carrying 57 professors and 420 students; the ship replaced the Queen Elizabeth, which had been destroyed by fire in January of the same year, thereby fulfilling C. Y. Tung's wish to promote education at sea.
