一九九零年十月二十六日，位於土瓜灣的一座工業大廈，其違例加建的混凝土簷篷（長二十五米）發生塌下事故，該建築物為區內僅有。

1990年10月28日，有大約五千人到場參加保衞釣魚台的民眾集會，針對日本右翼團體在釣魚台豎立航標燈及塗上日本國旗的行為，表達抗議。
