2001年8月21日，香港海關在葵涌檢獲410多萬支未完稅香煙，此次行動首次出動流動X光車輛掃描系統。

2001年8月24日，西貢沙角尾臨時房屋區的拆卸工程結束，該區是香港最後一個臨時房屋區，結束其長達41年的歷史。
