起重機械操作員操作塔式起重機、流動吊車或吊臂車吊運物料與預製件。根據《起重機械及起重裝置規例》，起重機只可由年滿十八歲並持有指定機構發出證明書的人操作。

起重機械操作員操作塔式起重機、流動吊車或吊臂車，按吊運計劃把物料、預製件或重型設備吊到指定位置。工作時要聽從訊號員指示，掌握起重量與幅度限制，並在每次開工前檢查鋼纜、吊鉤、限位器及支撐。吊運直接影響工地與公眾安全，任何疏忽都可能造成嚴重事故。操作員亦要與訊號員保持清晰溝通，確保吊運安全。
根據《起重機械及起重裝置規例》（第59J章）第15A(1)條，起重機只可由年滿十八歲並持有效證明書的人操作，證明書須由指定機構或勞工處處長指定人士發出；規例亦容許由東主認為憑經驗能勝任的人操作。指定機構須獲勞工處處長授權，並按訂明的課程規格培訓及簽發證明書。無有效證明書而操作起重機，有可能違法。
勞工處處長有權指定可簽發起重機操作員證明書的機構，建造業議會是其中之一。培訓按課程設計與規格分為新操作員課程、有經驗操作員課程及覆核課程；學員完成課程並通過考核，才獲發證明書。不同起重機類型須分別取得證明書，覆核課程則用於證明書到期前的續期，以確保持續符合操作資格。

Crane operators run tower cranes, mobile cranes or lorry cranes, lifting materials, precast units or heavy equipment to a designated position under a lifting plan. They follow the signaller's instructions, know the load and radius limits, and each day check the wire ropes, hook, limit switches and outriggers. Lifting directly affects site and public safety, so any lapse can cause a serious accident. Operators also work at height or in confined sites, which adds to the demands of the job and calls for steady concentration.
Under regulation 15A(1) of the Lifting Appliances and Lifting Gear Regulations (Cap. 59J), a crane may only be operated by a person aged 18 or above holding a valid certificate issued by a specified body or a person appointed by the Commissioner for Labour; the regulations also allow operation by a person whom the proprietor considers competent by experience. Specified bodies must be authorised by the Commissioner for Labour and must train and issue certificates to the prescribed course specifications. Operating a crane without a valid certificate may be an offence.
The Commissioner for Labour may specify the bodies that can issue crane operator certificates, and the Construction Industry Council is one of them. Training is divided, by course design and specifications, into a new-operator course, an experienced-operator course and a revalidation course; a certificate is issued only after completing the course and passing the assessment. Different crane types require separate certificates, and the revalidation course is used to renew a certificate before it expires. Operators must therefore keep their certificates current to stay on site.

水喉學徒係香港水管工程嘅入行起點：跟持牌水喉匠做供水同排水工程，同時讀職專課程，累積年資後考水務署水喉匠考試。
建築工人係地盤前線工種嘅統稱：紮鐵、釘板、落石屎、砌磚、批盪同拆卸等。入行靠訓練同工藝測試確立技能，而喺地盤工作要有建造業工人註冊證。
