工作實況：前線巡查同每周報告
安全督導員每一日都喺工地最前線。佢哋要巡查唔同工序，檢查工人有無正確佩戴安全帶同安全帽、防墮裝置同臨時設施係唔係完好，發現違規即時糾正並記錄；亦要協助班前安全講解、張貼警示同保持通道暢通。規例要求地盤安全督導員每周提交報告，交代巡查結果同跟進事項。因為督導員多由熟練工人或管工出身，佢哋嘅優勢係熟悉工序同實際風險，較容易同前線工人溝通，亦較能及早發現問題。
關卡：由僱主任命而非政府發牌
呢份工最大嘅特點，係佢並唔似安全主任咁要政府註冊。規例要求僱主喺指定場所（例如僱用二十名或以上工人嘅建築地盤）僱用安全督導員，並向勞工處處長呈報；督導員由僱主任命，負責執行規例訂明嘅前線安全職務。實務上，入行關卡係完成認可嘅安全督導員課程——建造業議會同職業安全健康局都設有相關課程，職安局更有自願認可計劃，方便市場識別。換言之，呢個職位嘅「牌照」其實係課程資歷同僱主委任，而唔係政府發出嘅執業證。
行業實況同晉升
安全督導員多由具地盤經驗嘅工人、管工或班長轉任，熟悉前線運作係最大優勢。做落之後，可以進修職安健文憑，向安全主任嘅專業資歷進發，或升任安全主管、安全經理。由於大型基建、樓宇同維修工程持續，加上法例同安全管理系統要求趨嚴，熟悉前線嘅督導員需求穩定。不過要留意，安全督導員嘅職位同薪酬高度依賴個別工程同僱主安排，做長線發展嘅人，通常會以考取安全主任資格為目標。

The job: frontline inspections and weekly reports
A safety supervisor is on the site's frontline every day. They inspect different operations, check that workers correctly wear safety belts and helmets and that fall-arrest devices and temporary works are intact, and correct and record breaches on the spot. They also help with pre-work safety briefings, post warnings and keep access clear. The regulations require site safety supervisors to submit a weekly report setting out inspection findings and follow-up items. Because supervisors usually come from skilled workers or foremen, their advantage is familiarity with processes and real risks, making it easier to communicate with frontline workers and to spot problems early.
The gate: appointed by the employer, not licensed by the state
The key feature of this role is that, unlike the safety officer, it does not require government registration. The regulations require the proprietor to employ a safety supervisor in designated workplaces (for example a construction site with 20 or more workers) and to notify the Commissioner for Labour; the supervisor is appointed by the proprietor to carry out the frontline safety duties set out in the regulations. In practice the entry gate is completion of an approved safety supervisor course, offered by both the Construction Industry Council and the Occupational Safety and Health Council, the latter also running a voluntary accreditation scheme for market recognition. In short, the role's licence is really a course qualification plus an employer's appointment, not a government practising certificate.
Industry reality and advancement
Safety supervisors are often experienced workers, foremen or team leaders moving across, and frontline familiarity is their greatest advantage. From there they can study for an occupational safety and health diploma towards the safety officer professional qualification, or rise to safety supervisor-in-charge or safety manager. With major infrastructure, building and maintenance works continuing and safety-management requirements tightening, demand for supervisors with frontline know-how is steady. Note that the post and pay depend heavily on the individual project and employer, so those planning a long-term career usually aim to qualify as safety officers.
