根據明代禮部尚書何維柏所寫的〈新安經始碑記〉，新安縣居民在明隆慶六年（1572年）透過耕種、挖井、打魚和買賣來維持生計，並以自身勞動力自給自足。
According to the "Xin'an Jing Shi Bei Ji" written by He Weibai, Minister of Rites of the Ming dynasty, residents of Xin'an County in the 6th year of the Longqing reign of the Ming dynasty (1572) sustained themselves through farming, well digging, fishing and trading, and were self-sufficient through their own labour.
