Did Sun Yat-sen really slip into Hong Kong in 1905 while Qing assassins hunted him, protected by a band of ordinary citizens?

電影設定1905年10月15日孫中山在港被清廷刺殺。近代史專家張鳴指出，清末清廷弱勢而膽小，並無系統組織刺殺孫中山，孫在港遇襲「無史料可查」；唯一相關的是1896年倫敦蒙難，孫被清廷特務拘於駐英公使館，後經英方干預獲釋。1905年同盟會在東京成立，孫中山同年確有活動，但香港刺殺一幕純屬虛構。片中部分人物有原型：陳少白真有其人，為《中國日報》社長；李玉堂原型為香港富商李煜堂，其子李重光原型為李自重。片首楊衢雲被槍殺亦真有其事，但發生於1901年1月10日，地點在上環結志街一間私塾內，並非電影的1905年、亦非室外。

The film is set on 15 October 1905, when it depicts Qing assassins trying to kill Sun Yat-sen in Hong Kong. Modern-history expert Zhang Ming told the press that the late Qing court was weak and never systematically organised assassinations of Sun, and that there is no historical record of Sun being attacked in Hong Kong. The only related episode is his 1896 "London ordeal", when Qing agents detained him inside the Chinese legation in London until British pressure secured his release. The Tongmenghui was founded in Tokyo in 1905 and Sun was active that year, but the Hong Kong assassination is pure fiction. Some characters do have real prototypes, such as Chen Shaobai, editor of the China Daily. Yang Quyun's shooting happened too, but on 10 January 1901, indoors at a school on Gage Street in Sheung Wan, not in 1905 as shown.
