Why it matters

“God of Gamblers” entered everyday metaphor; it also set a Chow Yun-fat / Andy Lau gambling-film template.

背景 Background

God of Gamblers (1989), directed by Wong Jing and starring Chow Yun-fat and Andy Lau among others, lent its title to everyday talk about someone who “always wins at gambling”; sequels and imitators made gambling films a commercial genre. This entry does not promote gambling — only the pop-culture marker.
