Thomas Yip is a Hong Kong television and film director and producer. In 1985 he directed for TVB the nostalgic drama The Battle Among the Clans, produced by Dennis Chiu and running thirty episodes from 27 May 1985, with Chow Yun-fat, Sean Lau, Ray Lui, Eddie Kwan and Bobby Au-yeung. Depicting triad power struggles in late-1940s Hong Kong after the war, it was one of TVB's major productions that year and remains the only television collaboration between Chow Yun-fat and Sean Lau; it drew good ratings and was praised for its nostalgic, realistic style. He later worked on films and series including action and animated titles such as The Cheetah Raiders, a Cantonese comedy and an animation about the boy Nezha, in a nostalgic and realistic vein. Some sources give his birth date as 8 April 1972, which sits awkwardly with a directing credit from 1985, so his birth year is left open; the two accounts are placed side by side pending verification. Either way, Yip has worked as a director and producer in Hong Kong television and film since the 1980s, his remaining biographical details being very limited.
