鞠覺亮1958年出世，1978年考入第七期無綫電視藝員訓練班；論輩分，佢係杜琪峰嘅師弟、無綫五虎將嘅師兄。後來佢轉到幕後，由助理編導做起，1983年升做編導，同年執導《射鵰英雄傳》（1983年版），呢部係佢第一齣金庸武俠劇。之後佢拍過《書劍恩仇錄》、《天龍八部》、《雪山飛狐》（呂良偉版）、《鹿鼎記》（梁朝偉、劉德華版）同《神鵰俠侶》（劉德華版）等，係改編金庸作品最多嘅電視導演之一。八十年代中後期佢轉投亞洲電視；九十年代初開始去台灣同中國內地發展。

Born in 1958, Kok Kok-leung trained in TVB's seventh acting class in 1978 — a junior of Johnnie To and senior of the Five Tiger Generals — before moving behind the camera and becoming a director in 1983. His first Jin Yong adaptation was The Legend of the Condor Heroes (1983), followed by The Return of the Condor Heroes (Andy Lau version), The Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain, The Duke of Mount Deer (Tony Leung and Andy Lau) and the Books and Swords series, making him one of television's most prolific adapters of Jin Yong. He moved to ATV in the mid-1980s and to Taiwan and the mainland in the early 1990s.
