張徹1923年出世，浙江人，上海長大，戰後投身電影，六十年代加入邵氏，1967年《獨臂刀》成為香港首部票房過百萬嘅電影，確立佢嘅「陽剛暴力美學」。佢先後捧紅狄龍、姜大衛、陳觀泰、傅聲等一代武打明星，對吳宇森等後輩影響至深，吳宇森更視佢為恩師。2002年離世，終年79歲。

Chang Cheh, born in 1923, joined the Shaw Brothers in the 1960s and redefined action cinema with One-Armed Swordsman (1967), Hong Kong's first million-dollar hit, establishing his muscular 'masculine violence' aesthetic. He launched the careers of Ti Lung, David Chiang, Chen Kuan-tai and Alexander Fu Sheng, and profoundly influenced successors like John Woo, who regards him as a mentor. He died in 2002, aged 79.
