Urban legends are part of a city’s culture, reflecting people’s fears, hopes and imagination. This site records them as **cultural phenomena**, clearly labelled as folklore rather than verified fact. **High Street Haunted House** (Sai Ying Pun): the former nurses’ quarters of the Government Civil Hospital (built 1892), later a mental-health facility. It is Hong Kong’s most famous “haunted house” in popular culture. **Ta Teh Institute** (Tuen Mun): a left-leaning college founded in 1946 and closed by the colonial government in 1949. Its abandoned campus became a setting for urban legends. **MTR ghost stories**: legends attached to stations from the 1970s onward, including the famous “Choi Hung” tales. **Bride’s Pool** (Tai Po): named for a folk tale of a bridal sedan falling into the pool. **Paper-effigy shops, Tai Ping Shan Street**: the funeral-goods shops of Sheung Wan’s Tai Ping Shan Street.
