Life expectancy and deaths come from vital registration, not hospital throughput. In 2025, registered deaths included 15,075 from malignant neoplasms (rate 200.4 per 100,000), 11,395 from pneumonia (151.4) and 6,594 from heart disease (87.6). The latest complete infant mortality rate in the same booklet is 1.7 per 1,000 live births in 2024; it is not written here as a 2025 figure. Healthcare workforce figures are year-end registered counts. Hospital beds are published in two official series that must not be mixed: 37,142 beds in HA, private and correctional hospitals (4.9 per 1,000, rate provisional) and 32,725 under the OECD definition (4.4 per 1,000, rate provisional), which excludes A&E observation, day and nursery beds. There were 8,797 registered Chinese medicine practitioners, 2,926 dentists and 3,461 pharmacists.
