    開埠與條約 / Port and treaties

    《天津條約》簽訂 / Treaty of Tientsin signed

    1858 年清政府與英法等國簽訂《天津條約》，開放更多通商口岸、允許外國公使駐京。條約其後因換約衝突導致戰事升級，至 1860 年《北京條約》完結。

    In 1858 the Qing government signed the Treaty of Tientsin with Britain, France and other powers, opening more treaty ports and allowing foreign envoys in Beijing. Disputes over ratification renewed hostilities, resolved by the 1860 Convention of Peking.

政府將中環砵典乍街命名以紀念首任港督砵甸乍，日後以陡直的石板街著稱。

Pottinger Street in Central is named after first Governor Sir Henry Pottinger and later famed as the stone-slab street.
