    初期發展 / Early growth

    香港鑄幣廠開業 / Hong Kong Mint opens

    1866 年香港鑄幣廠喺銅鑼灣開業，鑄造銀元等貨幣，以減少對外國鑄幣嘅依賴。1868 年因虧損停業，設備其後賣予日本。

    The Hong Kong Mint opened in Causeway Bay in 1866, striking silver dollars to reduce reliance on foreign coinage. It closed in 1868 due to losses, and the equipment was later sold to Japan.

1866 · 年級（金管局記載香港鑄錢局1866年啟用，生產五仙至一元的本地銀幣，約兩年後關閉）。

香港鑄錢局在銅鑼灣糖街啟用，首次在本地鑄造五仙至一元的香港銀幣，惟因生產與流通困難約兩年後關閉。

The Hong Kong Mint opens at Sugar Street in Causeway Bay, minting local silver coins from five cents to one dollar, but closes about two years later amid production and circulation difficulties.
