The claim

An ambulance officer is pricked by a needle used by a drug addict. Will she definitely contract HIV, and does she really need to use serving chopsticks when eating with others?

What really happens

A needle-stick with a used syringe is a blood exposure and one of the routes by which HIV can be transmitted, so the ambulance officer's concern is understandable. However, the risk of infection from a single needle-stick is actually low, commonly estimated at around 0.3%, and there is a standard response: clean the wound immediately, seek medical advice promptly, and start post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) within 72 hours to reduce the chance of infection. The drama's '30-day window period' and instant result are inaccurate; HIV antibody testing takes time and the window is measured in weeks, not a fixed 30 days. Crucially, HIV is not transmitted by sharing a meal or utensils or through casual contact, so there is no need for serving chopsticks, which only reinforce misunderstanding and stigma. A local patient group criticised the plot's several errors, and the script editor later apologised.
