The claim
In Tiger Cubs the Flying Tigers seem to be deployed constantly, so are they really called out for any armed case?
What really happens
The Flying Tigers in the drama are the Hong Kong Police Force's Special Duties Unit (SDU), formed in 1974. It is the Force's most heavily armed tactical unit, able to operate on land, at sea and in the air, and it handles counter-terrorism, hostage incidents and armed crime. The SDU comes under Police Tactical Unit Headquarters; entry is voluntary and passes through a rigorous annual selection with a pass rate below 25 percent, followed by about nine months of demanding training. As a tactical-intervention unit of last resort, the SDU is not a routine patrol or general-case unit and is deployed only in serious, high-risk situations. The drama heightens its training and operations, giving the impression it is called out for many kinds of cases, which overstates reality.
Inaccuracies
