1866年5月7日，香港鑄錢局在東角（即今銅鑼灣）成立並投產，鑄造五仙、一毫、二毫、五毫及一元合共五種面額的銀幣，該局最終於1868年停運。
On 7 May 1866 the Hong Kong Mint was established and began production at East Point (now Causeway Bay), striking silver coins in five denominations—five cents, ten cents, twenty cents, fifty cents and one dollar—and the mint finally ceased operation in 1868.

1878年5月7日，軒尼詩以港督身分捐出5000銀圓；梁安為華商，在香港及南洋籌得約30,000兩，用於救助同年華北的大旱與饑荒。
On 7 May 1878, Hennessy donated 5,000 silver dollars as Governor, and Leung On, a Chinese merchant, raised about 30,000 taels in Hong Kong and Nanyang to relieve the great drought and famine in North China that year.
