1858年7月31日，港督寶寧同時以中文及英文頒布公告，對清政府要求香港華人離開香港並停止向港供應糧食一事予以斥責，並稱清政府乃英國之敵，定必認真追究。
On 31 July 1858, Governor Bowring issued a proclamation in both Chinese and English condemning the Qing government's demand that Chinese in Hong Kong leave the colony and its cessation of food supplies to Hong Kong, stating that the Qing government was an enemy of Britain and would be held strictly to account.

1937年7月31日，華商總會、東華三院與中華廠商會等數個組織聯合組成華北兵災籌款聯席會議，旨在為七七事變後受戰亂波及的內地百姓募捐。
On 31 July 1937, several organisations including the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Tung Wah Hospital and the Chinese Manufacturers' Association jointly formed the North China War Relief Fundraising Joint Conference to raise funds for mainland civilians affected by the fighting after the Marco Polo Bridge Incident.
