1972 年嘅大事、當年成立嘅機構、當年數字同當年氣候，全部有來源同時點。氣候數據由天文台開放數據 API 逐日抓取後按年點算，所以每一年都用同一把尺。
Events, institutions founded, figures and climate for 1972 — each with a source and a reference date. Climate values are computed from the Observatory daily open-data series, so every year is measured with the same ruler.

新市鎮發展決定 / Decision to develop new towns
為配合十年建屋計劃，政府決定在新界發展新市鎮；其後二十年發展九個新市鎮。年報（2021）寫當時約 47% 人口住在新市鎮。
As part of a 10-year housing programme the government decided to develop New Territories new towns; nine were built over two decades. The 2021 yearbook said about 47% of the population then lived in them.

港元按固定匯率與美元掛鈎 / Fixed peg to the US dollar
金管局：1972 年 7 月港元與美元掛鈎，定為每美元兌 5.65 港元；1973 年 2 月改為 5.085。
HKMA: in July 1972 the Hong Kong dollar was pegged to the US dollar at HK$5.65 per US$1; the official rate moved to 5.085 in February 1973.

海底隧道啟用 / Cross-Harbour Tunnel opens
《香港便覽：道路設施》：海底隧道於 1972 年 8 月啟用，連接九龍與港島。路政署記其為首條貫通維港的行車隧道，亦是首個「建造、營運及移交」運輸項目；運輸署記 1972 年開始營運。
GovHK Highways fact sheet: the Cross-Harbour Tunnel opened in August 1972. HYD calls it the first harbour road tunnel and the first BOT transport project; TD dates the start of operation to 1972.
