On 2 December 1923, an organisation named Far East Wireless Communication Company recorded an opera with a small microphone at the King's Theatre in Tsim Sha Tsui and broadcast it via a transmitter at the Kowloon Hotel; it was clearly received by a P&O steamer 60 miles away, marking the first such broadcast in Hong Kong and the Far East.
