按 2021 年人口普查，5 歲及以上人口的慣用交談語言：廣東話 88.2%，英語 4.6%，其他中國方言 2.8%，普通話 2.3%，其他語言 2.1%。 「法定語文」與「慣用語言」不是同一件事。中文、英文是官方語文；普查中的慣用語言反映家庭及日常交談。書面中文在官方及正式場合使用繁體字。香港政府一站通亦指出，不少企業需要英語、廣東話和普通話的三語能力。

In the 2021 Population Census, the usual language of people aged 5 and over was Cantonese 88.2%, English 4.6%, other Chinese dialects 2.8%, Putonghua 2.3%, and other languages 2.1%. Official language and usual language are different measures. Chinese and English are the official languages; census usual-language figures describe home and daily speech. Formal written Chinese in official settings uses Traditional Chinese characters. GovHK also notes that many businesses look for English, Cantonese and Putonghua together.
