灣仔區位於港島北岸中部，由灣仔、銅鑼灣、跑馬地、大坑及掃桿埔組成，南界為聶高信山與渣甸山一帶。區內多為填海土地：由 1850 年代起歷次填海，灣仔北的會議展覽中心即建於新填地上。

Wan Chai sits on the central-northern shore of Hong Kong Island, comprising Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Happy Valley, Tai Hang and So Kon Po. Much of the district is reclaimed land: successive reclamations since the 1850s created the waterfront on which the Convention and Exhibition Centre now stands.

灣仔早年是海旁村落，中文名稱「灣仔」即「小灣」之意。1840 年代跑馬地開始用作賽馬，快活谷馬場是香港首個馬場。掃桿埔設有香港大球場（原名政府大球場）。利東街因婚嫁印刷品店舖集中而被稱為「囍帖街」，2000 年代重建後仍保留節慶元素。

Wan Chai began as a small harbour-side settlement — its name means “little bay”. Happy Valley hosted the first horse racing in the 1840s and remains the city’s turf course. So Kon Po contains the Hong Kong Stadium, the territory’s main football and athletics venue. Lee Tung Avenue was known as “Wedding Card Street” for its printing shops; it was rebuilt in the 2000s but keeps a festive character.

Wan Chai is a community where old meets new. The open-air markets around Spring Garden Lane and Cross Street are full of traditional life. The Star Street Precinct (Star, Moon, and Sun Streets) gathers a large number of boutique cafes, galleries, and designer brands, making it a great place to find trendy items. Race days at the Happy Valley Racecourse are a major local event.

港鐵港島線設灣仔、銅鑼灣、天后站；東鐵線過海段於 2022 年延伸至會展站。電車沿莊士敦道及軒尼詩道行走。海底隧道（紅隧）港島出口位於灣仔北部，是過海交通主要節點。

The Island Line serves Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Tin Hau; the East Rail line was extended across the harbour in 2022 to Exhibition Centre station. Trams run along Johnston Road and Hennessy Road. The Cross-Harbour Tunnel’s island portal opens in northern Wan Chai.

The HKCEC hosts major fairs such as the Book Fair and the Brands and Products Expo. Lockhart Road and Jaffe Road are lined with offices and hotels; Causeway Bay is a leading retail district, anchored by Times Square and Sogo.
