1944年9月8日，日軍沙頭角憲兵部指控蓮麻坑村約60名村民協助遊擊隊盜取礦山炸藥，遂將他們拘捕，村民葉天送與礦工葉生最終因受酷刑致死。
On 8 September 1944, the Japanese military police in Sha Tau Kok accused about 60 villagers of Lin Ma Hang Village of assisting guerrillas in stealing explosives from the mine, and arrested them; villagers Yip Tin-sung and miner Yip Sang eventually died from torture.

On 8 September 1951, the United Kingdom, together with 47 other countries, signed the Treaty of Peace with Japan, renouncing the right to claim compensation and no longer seeking reparations from Japan for economic losses caused by World War II; thereafter the British government also ceased to seek compensation from Japan on behalf of Hong Kong residents for losses related to military currency.

On 8 September 1967, the Hong Kong Government issued an emergency regulation on fireworks and firecrackers, providing that exemption was granted in only three situations, namely as imported goods on a cargo ship carrying no passengers, or for re-export through Hong Kong, with all others confiscated to prevent their explosive components from being used to make bombs; owners could receive compensation.
