香港是一個高密度的沿海城市，也是連接中國內地的主要門戶城市。1997年7月1日，香港成為中華人民共和國香港特別行政區，《基本法》同日生效。 本知識庫把「香港」拆成可以核對的基礎事實：土地與氣候、人口與語文、政制、法律、歷史時間線、經濟、勞工、交通、教育、衞生、房屋、假期、環境、郊野公園與海岸公園、社會保障、治安，以及十八個區議會分區。數字一律來自政府統計處、香港政府一站通、勞工處、房屋局、漁護署、《香港年報》或其他官方文本，並註明統計時點。 十八區人口採用政府統計處《按區議會分區劃分的人口及住戶統計數字》的陸上非住院人口，與全港年中人口估計口徑不同。若一項資料沒有官方來源，本站不會填上估計數字。

Hong Kong is a high-density coastal city and a major gateway to the mainland of China. On 1 July 1997 it became the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, and the Basic Law came into effect the same day. This knowledge base starts with facts that can be checked: land and climate, population and language, government, the legal system, a dated history timeline, the economy, labour, transport, education, health, housing, holidays, environment, country parks and marine parks, social security, law and order, and the 18 District Council districts. Figures come from the Census and Statistics Department, GovHK, the Labour Department, the Housing Bureau, AFCD, the Hong Kong Yearbook or other official texts, and each figure carries its reference date. District populations use the Census and Statistics Department land-based non-institutional series, which is not identical to the whole-territory mid-year estimate. Where an official source is not available, this site does not invent a number.
