金文泰

金文泰（Cecil Clementi，1875–1947）係殖民地部嘅「中國通」，早年加入香港政府任官學生，通曉中文與廣東話，1925年11月出任港督，係首位能直接與華人溝通的港督。他上任時省港大罷工（1925年6月至1926年10月）正值高峰，他以談判與懷柔並用方式處理，並拉攏華人精英支持政府；1926年委任周壽臣為首位華人行政局議員，華人正式進入最高決策機構。他亦重視中文教育，1926年創辦官立漢文中學（今金文泰中學），1927年促成香港大學中文學院成立，1930年離任後任海峽殖民地總督兼馬來聯邦高級專員，1947年逝世。

Cecil Clementi (1875–1947), a Colonial Office 'China hand' who had served in Hong Kong and spoke Chinese and Cantonese, became Governor in November 1925 — the first governor able to speak directly with the Chinese community. He arrived at the height of the Canton–Hong Kong General Strike (June 1925–October 1926), combining negotiation with conciliatory gestures and courting Chinese elites; in 1926 he appointed Chow Shouson as the first Chinese member of the Executive Council, bringing Chinese representation into the top decision-making body. He also championed Chinese education, founding the Government Vernacular Middle School (today's Clementi Secondary School) in 1926 and helping establish the University of Hong Kong's Department of Chinese in 1927. He left in 1930 to govern the Straits Settlements.
